Colin

Engineer Acknowledgment

Last updated October 14, 2026

Thanks for giving students your time. Because you work somewhere, there are a few things we need you to confirm before you take part. They protect you, your employer, and the students you talk to. This sits on top of our Terms of Service.

Your employer comes first

  • Before you take part, check your employment agreement, code of conduct, and any rules on outside activities or conflicts of interest. Some employers ask you to get approval first. If yours does, get it.
  • If your employer says no, or your situation changes, stop taking sessions and tell us. You can delete your account at any time from Settings.
  • Don't take part on company time or with company equipment if your employer's rules don't allow it.

Keep confidential information out of it

  • Don't share your employer's confidential or proprietary information: trade secrets, unreleased products, internal numbers, customer details, or anything covered by a nondisclosure agreement.
  • Don't share technical data controlled under U.S. export laws, such as ITAR or the EAR. This matters most in aerospace, defense, and some electronics and chemical work.
  • Stick to what's safe to say anywhere: your career path, the skills that matter, what the work is like, and information that's already public.
  • If a student asks about something you can't discuss, it's fine to say so.

You're independent

  • You take part as an individual. You aren't an employee, contractor, partner, or agent of Colin.
  • Colin doesn't pay engineers for sessions, and taking part doesn't come with any benefits.
  • You speak for yourself, not for your employer. You can list where you work on your profile, but please don't suggest your employer endorses Colin or anything you say.
  • You choose whether and when to post times, and you can stop whenever you like.

With students

  • Keep every conversation professional. Students on Colin are adults, 18 or older.
  • Don't promise a job, an internship, or a referral as part of a session.
  • Don't record a call unless the student agrees first.
  • Use what you learn about a student only for your conversation with them.
  • If anything about a session worries you, tell us. email support@colinchats.com.
